Product Introduction

Introduction of ASTM B861 Gr12 titanium tube:

Gr12 Titanium (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni) Titanium alloy is a corrosion-resistant titanium alloy, a near-alpha alloy developed to improve the crevice corrosion performance of pure titanium. The alloy is strengthened, and it has good crevice corrosion resistance to high temperature, low pH chloride or weakly reducing acid, and its corrosion resistance is significantly better than pure titanium and close to Gr9 alloy. Gr12 alloy also has good process plasticity and welding performance, and has been widely used in the chemical industry. The alloy can be used in the annealed state.

Grade 12 Titanium Alloy Overview:

Composition: Grade 12 titanium, also known as Ti-0.3-Mo-0.8Ni, contains titanium as the base metal with significant additions of molybdenum (Mo) and nickel (Ni). This alloy is notable for its excellent corrosion resistance in reducing and mildly oxidizing environments.

Properties: Grade 12 titanium exhibits good weldability, formability, and fabricability, along with high strength and toughness. It is often chosen for applications where corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and formability are essential.

ASTM B861 Specifications for Grade 12 Titanium Tube:

Scope: ASTM B861 specifies seamless and welded titanium tubes for general corrosion-resisting and elevated-temperature services.

Dimensions and Tolerances: The standard covers tubes in various sizes, wall thicknesses, and lengths. It specifies dimensional tolerances to ensure consistency and compatibility with fittings and other components.

Manufacturing Process: Tubes covered by ASTM B861 can be produced through seamless or welded methods. Seamless tubes are typically made by extrusion or rotary piercing, while welded tubes are manufactured by either welding strip or plate, followed by cold-working and annealing as necessary.

Quality Assurance:

A. According to globally recognized standards, such as ASTM, AMS, ASME. Provide third-party inspection reports. ISO Quality Management System.

B. Visual inspection to check surface quality, ensuring without flaw, black dot and other defects.

C. Chemical Composition making sure all chemical components can satisfy customer's demands.

D. Mechanical Property testing making sure all titanium products have satisfying mechanical features before delivery.

1. Raw Material Inspection:

Material Certification: Suppliers provide certification that verifies the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the titanium alloy used (e.g., Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 5, etc.).

Visual Inspection: Raw materials are visually inspected for surface defects, cleanliness, and conformity to specifications.

2. Manufacturing Processes:

Tube Production: Processes include extrusion for seamless tubes or welding for welded tubes. Quality controls at each step ensure dimensional accuracy and material integrity.

Heat Treatment: Annealing or solution annealing processes are applied to achieve desired mechanical properties and remove stresses induced during manufacturing.

3. Testing and Inspection:

Mechanical Testing: Includes tensile testing, hardness testing, and elongation measurements to verify strength and ductility properties.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Techniques such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and eddy current testing (ECT) detect internal defects without damaging the tube.

Dimensional Inspection: Ensures tubes meet specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.

Corrosion Resistance Testing: Testing in simulated service environments to validate resistance to corrosion and chemical exposure.

4. Quality Control:

Process Controls: Monitoring parameters like temperature, pressure, and feed rates during manufacturing to maintain consistency and quality.

Traceability: Ensuring traceability of materials and processes through batch numbers, heat codes, and comprehensive documentation.

Quality Management Systems (QMS): Compliance with ISO 9001 or other standards to manage processes, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.

5. Certification and Documentation:

Compliance: Certifications like ASTM B861, EN 10204, or customer-specific requirements ensure adherence to industry standards.

Documentation: Each tube batch is accompanied by certificates of conformance, material test reports (MTRs), and inspection reports detailing results of tests and inspections performed.

6. Customer Specifications and Requirements:

Customization: Tailoring products to meet specific customer needs in terms of dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and testing protocols.

Feedback and Improvement: Continuous feedback from customers helps in improving processes and addressing any quality issues that may arise.

Applications of Grade 12 Titanium Tube:

Chemical Processing: Grade 12 titanium tubes are used in chemical processing industries for handling corrosive chemicals and acids due to their superior corrosion resistance.

Heat Exchangers: These tubes are employed in heat exchanger systems where resistance to corrosion and thermal stability are critical.

Aerospace and Marine Applications: Grade 12 titanium's combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight properties makes it suitable for aerospace components and marine applications.

Medical Devices: It is also used in medical applications such as surgical implants and prosthetic devices due to its biocompatibility and corrosion resistance in bodily fluids.

Compliance and Certification:

Products conforming to ASTM B861 Grade 12 undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet specified mechanical properties, chemical composition requirements, and dimensional tolerances. Certification and documentation accompany each batch of tubes to verify compliance with ASTM standards.
